Today’s active social networking members represent more than one-third of the total
worldwide Internet user base, for a figure of 530m members worldwide. As social networking develops as an industry, mobility will play a vital role in shaping the future. There are strong forces bringing SNSs and mobility together, including the industry wide trend toward presence and personalization. The ability of members to access a social networking site from anywhere will enhance the utility of the SNS and thus boost the amount of advertising revenue that it can generate. For mobile operators, SNS could greatly increase mobile data usage, which has so far been lackluster in most markets, and open the door to new revenue streams from subscription fees or advertising. To that end, a broad range of handset suppliers, network equipment providers and software developers have been making progress in addressing technical obstacles to mobile social networking — such as the need for bandwidth, devices and browsers.
For this month’s MobileMonday Taipei event, we are going to talk about social networking going mobile, we have invited four representatives from social networking site, microblog site, mobile-only community managing company and telecom operator to have a panel discussion about mobile social networking.
Moderator: Mr. Tzuhan Schee 徐子涵

Because of their impressive record in Taiwan, on January 30th, 2008, they were given the rare opportunity to get on stage at DEMO 08, an elite high technology conference and showcase, and share their site with the world. At DEMO 08, atlaspost.com blew away the audience with their presentation and their innovative website. For their excellent presentation, they won the prestigious People’s Choice Award, in which they’re the 2nd company to receive the honor in the 15 years of the awards existence. After DEMO 08, atlaspost.com has garnered a firestorm of interest and will be establishing their US office later this year.
Mr.Akang (阿康), founder of Buboo(巴布)
Twitter has created a new way to for people to write their blogs, which is called “Microblog”, users can just use their cell phones to write their blogs via SMS. When Akang discovered Twitter for the first time, he thinks this is a very interesting information platform, very easy to use. But because there is no Chinese interface for Twitter, there are not that many users in Taiwan. So Akang and his wife decided to set up the Taiwanese version of Twitter and name it “Buboo”. What does Buboo mean? Buboo is a slang people use when they hear people are blubbing or just talking nonsense, it’s informal but very down to earth, so they want everyone who uses this site can feel the same way. There were already 2000 members in one month after Buboo established, and there are 200 to 300 people signing up everyday. They are adding more new functions to Buboo, to provide the use a much better Internet environment for users.
